Debate Competition for CA Members

(Open to Members of all Branches in WIRC)

1) Preliminary Round of Competition would be on Saturday, 17^th July 2021 from 6 pm to 8 pm

2) 2^nd Round would be on Wednesday, 21st July, 2021 from 6 pm to 8 pm

3) Final Round would on Saturday, 24^th July, 2021 from 6 pm to 8 pm.

Rules for Debate Competition 

1. Entry will be either in group or for an individual member. Individual entries will later be clubbed in a group.
2. Group size is minimum two (2) & maximum four (4) members.
3. One speaker from the first group will give an opening statement – 4 minutes -warning bell after 3 minutes.
4. Rebuttal by opposing team - 3 minutes
5. One speaker from the other group will give an opening statement - 4 minutes- warning bell after 3 minutes
6. Rebuttal by opposing team - 3 minutes
7. Challenge between opposing teams - 6 minutes- warning bell after 5 minutes
8. Two spot questions from Judges to each group.
9. Paper & Pen will be allowed but no digital gadget would be allowed.
10. Finale - Challenge round will be of 8 minutes and each Judge will ask one question to each team.
11. It would be in the knockout form. Two groups will debate on a subject chosen by them in the first round & winner on the basis of points awarded by judges, (based on the score sheet provided) will proceed to the next round & will debate with the winner of the other preliminary round. It will be continued till there remain two or three groups, who will debate in the Grand Finale.
12. In registration form, the Group can choose a topic for the first round on a ‘first come first serve basis’. Three choices of subjects on preferential basis to be provided. A particular topic of debate can be chosen by maximum two groups. Which team will debate on which aspect of the topic will be decided just before start of the competition by a draw. Topics for succeeding rounds would be allotted to the group two days before the next round.
13. Only English & Hindi or mix of these two languages can be used.
14. Formal dress code as prescribed by ICAI is recommended for the participants.
15. Mementos will be awarded to Winner & Runners up team.
16. ‘GEM of the Debate’ will be selected from all the participants, and would be awarded by a memento.
