JOB DESCRIPTION Semi-Qualified CA – Tax Litigation Department: Tax Litigation – Direct & Indirect Tax Location: Pune / Maharashtra Employment Type: Full-Time Experience: 1–3 years preferred About the Role We are looking for a Semi-Qualified CA to join our Tax Litigation team and handle assignments relating to Direct Tax and Indirect Tax litigation and advisory. The candidate will work closely with Partners/Senior Professionals and will be responsible for research, preparation of submissions, drafting, case documentation, hearing preparation and follow-up before various tax authorities and appellate forums. Key Responsibilities 1. Direct Tax – Income Tax * Handling assessment and reassessment proceedings under the Income-tax Act. * Preparation of replies/submissions to notices issued by the Income Tax Department. * Assisting in CIT(A), ITAT and other appellate proceedings. * Conducting legal and factual research on tax issues. * Drafting written submissions, grounds of appeal, statements of facts and other representations. * Studying assessment orders, notices and appellate orders and identifying issues for further action. * Assisting in tax litigation strategy and preparation of case papers. * Tracking limitation dates, hearings and compliance requirements. 2. Indirect Tax – GST * Handling GST notices, scrutiny, audit and adjudication matters. * Preparing replies to SCNs, audit observations and departmental notices. * Assisting in GST appeals and related proceedings. * Researching GST provisions, rules, circulars, notifications and judicial precedents. * Drafting written submissions and compiling supporting documents. * Analysing GST demands, interest, penalty and input tax credit issues. * Coordinating with clients for information and documentation. 3. Legal & Tax Research * Researching provisions of the Income-tax Act, GST law, Rules, Notifications and Circulars. * Studying relevant High Court, Supreme Court, ITAT and CESTAT/GST Tribunal decisions. * Preparing concise legal research notes and case-law summaries. * Keeping track of important amendments, judicial developments and departmental instructions. 4. Case Management * Maintaining litigation databases and case-wise documentation. * Preparing hearing files and case briefs. * Monitoring notices, hearing dates, limitation periods and statutory deadlines. * Coordinating with clients, advocates, consultants and internal teams. * Ensuring timely submission and proper documentation of all proceedings. Desired Skills * Strong understanding of Income Tax and GST laws. * Good drafting and written communication skills. * Ability to interpret statutory provisions and judicial decisions. * Strong analytical and research capability. * Ability to independently study a tax issue and develop a preliminary view. * Good command over MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint. * Familiarity with tax portals such as Income Tax e-filing, GST and related departmental portals. * Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines simultaneously. Preferred Candidate Profile * CA Inter / Semi-Qualified CA. * 1–3 years of relevant experience in taxation, litigation, audit or tax advisory preferred. * Candidates having experience in tax litigation, notices, assessments, appeals or GST proceedings will be preferred. * Candidates should have a genuine interest in tax law, litigation and research.
